Apart from a few minor items, my setup is pretty much done and I should be ready to go!

By scaling down on the size/weight of tent, day pack, cooking gear, sleeping bag and hiking boots, I’ve managed to fit it all into the Baltoro 75 backpack (Gregory), weighing about 17kg. I’m pretty happy with this, since I was getting worried that it would not fit at all. What helps in reducing the size/weight is also the fact that I’m not carrying a lot of food. Only enough for a pretty meager week. I will be traveling through villages, and mostly eating and sleeping there.

With this setup however, I won’t have to worry about not reaching a village in time and not finding a place to sleep/eat. Also if I miss a boat somewhere, I can manage for a few days without panicking wholeheartedly!

I have a solar panel that should be able to provide me with enough power for my smaller tech stuff like Camera/Phone. It won’t charge the laptop though, and I’m not carrying a satellite phone or any kind of satellite messenger, so I won’t have connection for days/weeks. But that is kinda the whole point, not to be connected. I should however be able to update the blog whenever I reach any bigger cities.

Anyway, this is it. This is my inventory list for 8 months in the South Pacific!

  1. I’m excited for you Thomas – it will be a great journey!
Are you sure 20 imodium will cut it? heh

Did you get the malaria meds? I can see it added to the list, but wasn’t sure if you were going to get them.

If anyone knows how to pack the essentials to survive anywhere out there, it is you – learning from experience ;) Just look at the clothes – that is for 8 months, others would pack more for 5 days.

The Haglofs Lite Zip Off pants is a great idea, but is 1 long pair enough? I would think some “joggingdrenge” would hit a sweet spot at days and can be very lightweight and tiny volume in the right fabric.

I will look forward to follow your journey from this website!
    GL out there mate

    • Hey Claus, thanks.

I Got the malaria meds with me, and will use them if I get malaria. As for pants I hardly use anything else than shorts, so the one pair of pants I brought was more than enough :)

      Cheers
